The Becherhaus, the Schwarzensteinhütte, the Weißkugelhütte and the Zwickauer Hütte are South Tyrol’s highest mountain huts and have borne witness to an eventful history. Four hut keepers spend their summers in the mountains, far away from civilisation. Their huts are located on the South Tyrolean side of the main Alpine ridge and are the ideal starting point for sporting adventures. The keepers head for the heights at the end of June, returning only at the end of September. Leisure time and privacy are in short supply during this time – as is sleep at times. The keepers are also always the first point of contact for all manner of problems, both big and small. This requires a wide range of skills and a strong personality.
