With a little imagination, the contours of the Sarntal Alps resemble a heart – fitting for an area known as the heart of South Tyrol. The Sarntal Alps offer unparalleled views stretching from the Dolomites across the Zillertal and Ötztal Alps to the Ortler. The Sarntal Alps themselves feel like a peaceful oasis, their vast plateaus still largely undiscovered by mass tourism. Extreme climber Tamara Lunger spent her childhood and youth in a hut on the Latzfons Cross, the highest pilgrimage site in Europe. To this day, this is the place she keeps coming back to – to recharge her batteries, to reflect or simply to relax. There are many legends about the mystical hills of the Stoanerne Mandln in the Sarntal Valley. In the Middle Ages, witches are said to have held dances and devilish festivals here, surrounded by hundreds of stone statues against the backdrop of the surrounding mountains. Former ski athlete Patrick Thaler is also very attached to his homeland. He wants to show this special place to his former rival Manfred Pranger, especially the sunrises seen from there, which are a special and intense experience.
