The Mighty Rocks of the Ogliastra, Sardinia

Sardinia is climbing star Alexander Huber’s favourite island, with the cliffs of Ogliastra offering fantastic climbing opportunities right on the coast. Free climbing against a unique ocean backdrop on the striking Aguglia rock needle is just one of many adventures Alexander experiences here. In the small village of Baunei, the mountain expert meets his Sardinian friends to plan a trekking tour along one of Italy’s most spectacular and challenging long-distance hiking trails: the Selvaggio Blu. This coastline, featuring bays, grottos and maquis forests, is a World Heritage Site, the landscape interspersed only with old shepherds’ and charcoal burners’ paths. Ogliastra is a pristine region where many Sardinian traditions have been preserved and are well worth discovering.
